Summary: Koyama likes Shige a lot. Maybe even a bit too much.
"Do you want to get lunch?" Koyama finally gets up the courage to ask Kato-kun for the first time ever. He's a little flushed and very nervous, because, 'What if Kato-kun says no?'
Koyama likes Shige very, very much, maybe more than he does most people. Which is saying a lot, because Koyama likes everyone.
He's actually convinced that, 'Kato-kun will say no', because he's managed to convince himself that 'Kato-kun is so cool' (no one else really agrees with him, but they won't say that to his face), and no one who was 'that cool' would want to have lunch with Koyama. Still, one day he finally manages to screw up all his shreds of courage, and the question pops out by itself.
Shige says yes, and Koyama nods dispiritedly when he says so, and begins to walk off in defeat when he realizes that 'Kato-kun actually agreed!' He quickly stops himself, dashes back to where Shige is standing and asks, "Really?"
Shige gives him a bewildered look, but the two quickly become friends after that.
They have lunch together countless times, but really, Koyama wants to ask Shige an even bigger question, the likes of which he'll certainly want to say no to. He knows he probably shouldn't, should stick to being lunch buddies, because Shige can't possibly like Koyama as much as Koyama likes Shige, and so asking the question will only lead to him being rejected and lowering his self esteem.
But then one day at lunch, the question just falls out of his mouth.
"Do you want to come over to my house sometime?"
Shige beams and says yes, so Koyama promptly knocks over his glass of cola and spills it in his lap.
"It's funny," Shige says, trying to lighten the mood while Koyama turns beet red and tries to sponge himself clean with a napkin, "I always imagined that high school students were all really cool and composed, but I guess it depends on the person, doesn't it?"
Koyama wills himself not to bury his head in his hands and cry as Shige goes to get more napkins.
They go to each other's houses countless times, and eventually Koyama manages to stop humiliating himself in front of Shige every time he sees him. It was probably when his sister told him to 'stop blatantly hero-worshipping a middle school student' that he realized he needed to get control over himself or Shige would probably start to think he was a moron (so many drinks have been spilt by Koyama while he's been in Shige's presence. Not to mention how many dance moves have been performed backwards and out of synch. Or how many doors have been walked into while Koyama hasn't been looking where he was going). Shige just thinks he's clumsy.
But thanks to this new attitude, Koyama now feels much more relaxed around Shige, and as a result, the two of them have grown even closer.
However, eventually another question that Koyama wants to ask Shige hits him. He knows it's better left unasked, but what if Shige says yes? And so, one day when they're hanging out in Koyama's room, Koyama manages to get up the nerve to ask him.
The question comes out while Koyama's sorting through his CD rack with his back turned, so Shige can't see how hard he's blushing. "It's getting late. Do you want to stay the night?"
Shige readily agrees. Koyama's entire CD collection goes crashing to the floor.
They stay over at each other's places quite regularly, and gossip like school girls, early into the morning. Shige and Koyama's mothers become friends too, and consider each other's sons to be part of their own family. So much so that one day Koyama's mother asks him, "Kei, do you want to invite Kato-kun to the theme park with us tomorrow?"
Koyama nods, enthusiastic about the idea until he realizes he's the one who has to do the asking. Of course, Shige and he are becoming best friends, but what if Shige's busy? Or doesn't feel like going? He doesn't want Shige to say no to him, but he can't very well not ask, because then he won't enjoy himself anyway.
And so, that day at work as they're coming back from a short lunch break, he asks Shige shyly, "My family are going to a theme park tomorrow. Do you want to come with us?"
Shige's eyes shine. "Sure, I'd love to! Is it really okay?"
He never actually gets an answer, because at that precise moment Koyama walks into a hanger full of clothes and falls over on top of it. They spend the next half hour picking up costumes and nursing Koyama's grazes.
The next day when they go to the theme park together, Koyama has a couple of bruises on his legs from when he fell over, but is otherwise in perfect health and very excited about spending the day with Shige.
They ride all the attractions together, and Koyama's mother buys them both food and they all have a lot of fun. Koyama even manages not to knock over or drop or trip over anything. In fact, he behaves quite normally around Shige until they decide to go into the haunted house. As is natural for teenage boys, both proclaim that there's nothing in there that could possibly scare them, because it's all fake anyway.
Only half way through, Koyama has screamed so hard, so many times, that it's a wonder his lungs haven't collapsed. Shige is a little scared, but not too much, and he's more amused by Koyama's reaction than anything else.
And then they round a corner, and something practically falls out of the wall right in front of them, and Koyama shrieks, grabs Shige's hand and runs a few metres before his body decides they're safe.
He clutches Shige's hand all the way to the exit, when he finally realizes what he's doing, and quickly lets go, apologizing and blushing. But Shige just smiles at him, so Koyama smiles back. Then he walks into a trash can.
Koyama is no longer so worried about asking Shige questions. However, there is still one that he's realized he wants answered, but isn't quite able to ask yet.
"Hey, Shige..."
But sometimes Koyama catches Shige looking at him in a soft sort of way, with a look in his eyes that Koyama recognizes from his own bedroom mirror. It's the same look he always has whenever he has an unspoken question for Shige.
"I was wondering how you feel about me."
Koyama isn't able to ask yet, because he's not sure if Shige's ready to answer. But when the time comes, Koyama is pretty sure that the answer will be yes.
"Because I like you a lot. And I just wanted to know if you..."

that was so cute
thanks for writing it
This was so cute~! Koyama falling over everything because of Shige ^__^
<3 Koyama is very cute. He can probably add a touch of cute to most things.
Thanks for reading!
You're so fast! :)
Anyways- damn the different timezones, but it's 3:20AM here, so I can't read the post even if I REALLY WANT TO...gomen.
I shall post a pretty comment tomorrow <3
Oyasumi ^__^
Hehe, it's okay! I'll look forward to your comment! :) Hope you enjoy it~~
Haha, oh hey, I know of you~ You are (were?) on my girlfriend's flist. I think she showed me some of your fic once...
koyama is so adorable and cute and dorky when he unintentionally injures himself because of shige's answers XD
thanks for sharing~ =3
The fail and self-injuring Koyama was actually a later addition to this fic, but I'm kinda glad I added it now. :3
<3 Nooo~ Thank YOU for reading~~
The ending was reallyyyyyyy cute too *w* *w* *w* YEY.
He is a big silly. :3 But we loves him for it.
I thought the story flowed very well, and it gave me a sense of kind of 'high school' love. Like, you're unsure of yourself and always messing up, lol, it's great!
I love how every time Shige agrees to something, Koyama walks into something else-hilarious!
And then I love how you brought up that Shige is still in middle school when they became friends, and that Koyama wasn't that much cooler:P
Haunted Houses are always the best thing for that kind of stuff:P
<3
:) I added a lot to the story when I typed it out on the computer (like, the entire 4th and 5th scenes) because I wanted to show that Koyama gradually became less nervous about asking Shige questions (though no less clumsy. When he finally does get around to asking Shige if he likes him, I hate to imagine what he will do to himself...)
;D It was especially important that Koyama bring up that Shige is still in middle school, so I can fit the prompt. Ha ha ha.... *Dork*
D: That actually happened to me in a haunted house. Not the hand holding, but the entire wall in front of us suddenly collapsed towards us. It's the only thing that got a noise out of me. *Manly*
Wow-man, did you tell someone the Haunted House was breaking down? lol
soooooo cute thank you :D
Shige will not be able to resist. 8D
i loved this! clumsy koyama is love!
Koyama is flaily love! :D Shige could probably not resist his cuteness.
