Akame

One-shot - Average day

Title: Average day
Pairing: Akame
Word count: 1,028
Rating: PG
Summary: Jin has a completely ordinary day

Kame's already gotten out of bed by the time Jin wakes up. He lies there for a while with his eyes closed, listening to the wind blowing the rain against the window and the sound of Kame downstairs, making breakfast. Once he sums up enough will, he slips from underneath the warmth of the covers, out into clutches of the winter air. He heads to the bathroom, brushing his teeth and shaving while he showers to save time. They have to leave for work in twenty minutes.

There's no time to eat, but Kame's left a cup of coffee on the table for him to gulp down before they go. It's lukewarm and not strong enough, but he drinks it anyway.
They leave for work in Jin's car, and the streets are crowded from the weather and the morning rush. Kame naps in the passenger seat, while Jin amuses himself by watching the rivers of raindrops running down the windscreen; some even get to the bottom before the wipers can brush them away. All the while, the radio drones with a monotonous song that neither of them bother to hear.

They're only two minutes late to work, so no one notices, and Jin nearly falls asleep in his chair as he's getting his makeup done. He chats idly with Nakamaru about what he had for dinner last night, and Nakamaru asks what he's going to do once the photoshoot is over. Jin shrugs. He doesn't know. Probably go home.

They're all thrust in front of the photographer in two groups of three - KAT and TUN - while various helpers run around arranging and re-arranging their hair and limbs. The man behind the camera is actually funny when he cracks jokes, so the session isn't too torturous and their smiles come more easily than usual.

He talks to Ueda while waiting to have his solo shots taken, then to one of the makeup artists - a male one - and then Taguchi is finished and it's Jin's turn. He doesn't plan to wait around for anyone once he's done. He hardly ever does, but then Kame touches his shoulder before he goes in front of the camera, asking if he'd like to get something to eat after this. Jin agrees. It's not like he has anything better planned.

People buzz around him like flies, touching up his makeup, fixing his hairstyle, adjusting the lights. He pays them little to no attention, eyes fixed on the camera lens, and a slight pout fixed on his lips. He follows instructions flawlessly despite barely hearing them; this is no different from the other hundreds of other photo shoots he's had before, all merged into one dizzying blur of camera flashes and nameless scuttling workers in his memory.

The photographer talks to him in a way that doesn't leave room for answers. They all do that, since they don't want their subjects to feel compelled to reply and ruin the shot by moving. He just smiles the whole time instead, even when one of the women comes in to fix his hair and accidentally pulls it. She doesn't apologize. He figures that she must not have noticed.

Jin remembers to wait for Kame until his shoot is over, and wonders why it seems to take such a long time when you're waiting for someone else. Whenever you're the one staring at the lens, it feels like a much quicker process. Then Ueda nudges him and asks if he wants to go to a concert he bought tickets to this weekend, and Jin forgets all about his previous train of thought.

They confirm their plans, and Ueda writes Jin a note with the time and day, saying that he doesn't trust him to remember otherwise. Then he beams and pats him on the shoulder, obviously in cute, perky Ueda mode, instead of quiet and sullen. Maybe something good happened to him this morning. Maybe he's just glad that Jin agreed to go with him. Jin can't bring himself to care enough to ask.

Instead he looks up and tries to see if he can gauge how much time is left until Kame will be done. No one's saying anything about 'just a few more shots left' yet, so he figures that it'll be a while longer. Jin thinks it's been a while since he's seen Kame being asked to look cute for the camera. Recently the photographers haven't been asking him for anything other than sultry, come-hither looks.

Kame's expression does look sweet, but the way his hands are resting on his thighs says something else, and he's leaning back in a manner that's slightly too enticing. Jin's gaze catches on the bare skin of Kame's chest, exposed by his too-loose shirt, and his eyes travel down until they reach buttons and material, and he tears them away. The moment passes.

He falls into a doze, jerking out of it only when he feels a hand on his shoulder, and Kame's telling him that they can go now. He washes the make-up from his face, and then he's out into the less heavy, but still present drizzle before he's even completely alert again. They get back into his car. He puts his hand on the gear stick, and feels Kame's hand join it for a second, tender and fleeting, before it's gone. Jin doesn't respond. He's not supposed to.

"What do you want to eat?" He asks, starting the engine, and Kame shrugs, doing up his seatbelt. Jin never wears his, but Kame's pedantic like that.
"I don't care. You can choose."
Jin thinks, and asks, "What about curry?"
"I had that with my family two nights ago."
He doesn't bother telling Kame that, 'obviously he does care what they have, then' and instead decides on having pasta. Kame agrees.
Jin turns the window wipers on again, and they push the build up of raindrops away as the car pulls onto the road. Kame falls asleep in the passenger seat, and Jin turns the radio on. It drones with a monotonous song that neither of them bother to hear.

^_^ this actually has a different and refreshing feel.. cuz everyone's busy writing angst, sadness romance smut..a normal nothing happens day actally is pretty cool in this sense ^_^ i like it
:D Oh, that's good then! I'm happy you like. :333
XD; Jin sounds a little stuck up though. Like, "Man, you make-up and hair stylists... Same everywhere." or something. n.n;
Ooh. I can't even being to tell you how much I love fics like these. Angst and fluff and all those things are fun and nice, but I have a particular soft spot for everyday life fics. There are too few of them out there, and this was wonderful. :)

Sometimes, nothing NEEDS to happen for the story to be great. :) I really like your style.

And thanks for giving us a heads up on 'Mine.' I've been following that one avidly, so I'll wait patiently until the next chapter is up.

Thank you. :)
I guess there's not so many of them because it WOULD get dull if there was. Once in a while, it's refreshing. More than that probably isn't.
XD; Speaking of writing style, I wonder if I screwed up the present tense thing anywhere in there? No beta reader = a million re-readings = mistakes. 3:
And as for 'Mine', I know what's happening in the rest of the chapter, but the words are refusing to come. I'm going to try again today.
Ah, I really enjoyed this. It had a certain feeling to it, that I can't quite describe. I mean, nothing happened but it still sounded really pretty. Maybe a bit angsty.
I'm glad to see you're writing again, I missed your fics (Mine!!!)
:)
I hate dull, boring days, passionately. Anyway, I tried to put all that feeling into the story (Maybe I was hoping it would steal it away from me~).
I think maybe the slightly angsty feel is because of the wow, I-just-don't-care thing that Jin has going on. :3

Ah~ And I try to write everyday. It's just sometimes nothing happens. I had a three day span where all I did was stare at the last sentence I'd written in Mine, but added nothing. n.n;
Oooh. That was so interesting, but I can't really say how.. I've definitely never felt this before, reading other fics.
I think it's great that you were able to pull it off without boring people to death. O_O I just don't get how it didn't.
Maybe it was... because I was writing about a feeling instead of an event in a way. I'm not sure myself.
I suppose people weren't bored, since it was a change of pace? :3 Perhaps~~ I know I couldn't use it again.
I like "slice of life" fics like this. This was simple, but it made for a pleasurable read. :3 I like how "real" Jin felt in this and how you showed that the life of an idol can feel simple, average and lackluster at times.
Yeah, I figure they'd get used to parts of idol life eventually~ Interviews and photo shoots, anyway.
I'm glad it was pleasurable to read, despite being simple. Although I really saw no other way to produce the emotion I wanted, other than by keeping it simple.
hiii girllll
i was really worried >.< about you
and really i thought that you left the fic!!
XDDD but now i think that you need time... i guess, but i know that you can!
